Students who did not get on-campus dormitories need to rent off-campus housing. Does the school provide any related information?

Is there a charge for electricity in the dormitory?

Part of the electricity needs to be borne by yourself and paid through the air-conditioning card. The electricity bills to be borne by yourself include:

  1. Air-conditioner in all dormitories (220V electricity).
  2. Headlights and fans for Ming, Ping, Li, Yi, Shiue, Ru, Tsing, Hua, Cheng, Jen and Shyr (220V electricity).
  3. Electrical equipment used in public (simple) kitchens and Dorm Hung kitchens; air conditioners in public spaces in dormitories.

How do you join sport team?

  1. The school has 28 sports teams
    (14 types of sports, each sport is divided into 2 groups: the general group and the open group), including men's basketball team, women's basketball team, men's volleyball team, women's volleyball team, football team, baseball team, men's table tennis team, women's table tennis team, men's badminton team, women's badminton team, men's tennis team, women's tennis team, track and field team, swimming team, boxing team, handball team and archery team.
  2. There are roughly 4 ways to join the school team:
    (1) Discovered by the PE class teacher and recommended to the coach of the sport;
    (2) The coaches of the representative team recruit athletes through evaluations;
    (3) Discover potential athletes through the Freshmen Cup or Inter-department Cup;
    (4) Self-recommendation.

How many student clubs are there at NTHU? How do I get the club information and join a club that I am interested in?

There are more than 170 student clubs in 9 categories. If you are interested in joining a club, you can leave a message on the website of the club or contact their club leader.

Is there any opportunity for Taiwanese student to interact with the foreign students at campus?

The Office of Global affairs offers the newbie program. We recruit current Taiwanese students to be the buddy of the International freshmen in order to create a friendly environment for international students as well as to offer a platform for Taiwanese students to interact with the foreign students.

Is there any association or organization that is specified for foreign students?

We have Foreign Student Association at school, which mainly consists of current foreign students. They hold the welcome party, Christmas party and international festival annually and recruit new members at May. Students could refer to the fan page or IG of Foreign Student Association to get more information.

Are there regular shuttle buses between the NTHU Main Campus and Nanda Campus?
How often does the shuttle bus run

There are regular shuttle bus trips between the NTHU Main Campus and Nanda Campus. Departure times are as follows:

  1. During the semester, there are 28 trips of shuttle buses between the NTHU Main Campus and Nanda Campus every day on weekdays.
    The first departs at 7:10 am and the last bus leaves at 22:55 pm.
    It operates centrally during peak school hours, and run hourly during off-peak hours.
    The schedule will be adjusted at the beginning of each semester, and the actual usage shall prevail. The adjustments also occur at major events, such as school anniversary (increase) or severe epidemics (decrease).
    The schedule will be adjusted in each semester beginning, the judgement will depend on real usage. Besides that, the adjustment will also happen on major events, such as school anniversary(increased), or serious epidemics(decreased).
  2. City bus No. 83 (toll) route connects to the Main Campus and Nanda Campus. There are 24 daily trips from Monday to Friday, with 4 of 24 trips direct to the two campuses.

Does NTHU provide a shuttle bus to the high-speed rail station during the holidays?

The school does not provide a shuttle bus to the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) Station. The shuttle bus No. 182 (Bei-Da Bridge à THSR Hsinchu Station) is provided by Guoguang Bus Terminal next to the North Main Gate (Front door) to the THSR station.

What is the recommended way of moving if the location to continue the course is far apart?
Do I have to buy a bicycle?

Students are recommended to commute around campus by the following ways:

  1. Walk along sidewalk on campus.
  2. Take the campus shuttle bus: There are 120 medium-sized buses and 11 large-sized buses departures daily from Monday to Friday. The first bus departs at 7:20, and the last bus departs at 22:20. During peak hours of class time, the shuttle bus shifts will accommodate as many services as needed.
  3. Low-Speed Transportation: The main campus has set up two short-distance transportation, YouBike and oloo shared electric scooter, for students to use. In addition, students could arrange their own on transportation, such as bicycles or electric bicycles, which are on the allowable list of the Campus Security Office.
